I found him, he found me or destiny found us – what so ever! I got the chance to meet the very talented singer and songwriter Ryan Tennis at our legendary Open Mic Show at Plaza Club. Ryan Tennis came all the way from Philadelphia (US) for his european Tour. Philadelphia to me has always been special. It is the city where my dearest cousin used to study. Lots of good and fun times were spent there. Finding out that they’ve met years back in that city with millions of inhabitants seems to almost be impossible! Just a coincidence?
If you listen to Ryan Tennis’ music, it feels like taking a road trip to a new place with an old friend. His songs range from soul-touching acoustic ballads to roots funk and soul to hip-shaking afro-carribean. Under it all is a foundation of groove and warmth that keeps you moving forward giving your soul a home.
Tennis’ sound has drawn comparsions to Paul Simon, Bill Withers and Ben Harper – suprising likeness for a former all-American college football player turned into a passionated singer and songwriter. While his disarming lyrics and singable melodies display a rare sensitivity, the intensity of his live performances – solo or backed by the raucous Clubhouse Band – hint at his gridiron past. Ryan’s charming authenticity and powerful groove have endeared him to fans at home and abroad, and with a dogged do-it-yourself-mentality the last two years have seen him orchestrate successful tours through Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Ireland, Colombia and Argentina. 2017/18 will see him, along with the undeniable rhythmic energy of percussionist, Joseph Keim, tour in the US, Europe, and South America in support of his new EP, "2 Days on the Fence."
